Transition to Secondary School: A Journey of Growth and Confidence

This course is a 6  week course,  delivered in the home to students who are unable to attend on site provision. 

Week 1: Understanding the Transition to Secondary School

  • Topics Covered:

    • What to expect in secondary school: new routines, subjects, and expectations.

    • Building confidence and managing feelings of anxiety or excitement about the transition.

Week 2: Identifying and Filling Knowledge Gaps (Maths Focus)

  • Topics Covered:

    • Reviewing key areas of the UK primary school maths curriculum (fractions, multiplication, division, etc.).

    • Identifying individual gaps in knowledge and practicing problem-solving skills.

Week 3: Identifying and Filling Knowledge Gaps (English Focus)

  • Topics Covered:

    • Reviewing core areas of primary English, including grammar, punctuation, and reading comprehension.

    • Identifying individual strengths and areas needing reinforcement in literacy skills.

Week 4: Study Skills and Time Management

  • Topics Covered:

    • Introduction to effective study habits and time management strategies for secondary school.

    • Techniques for organisation, prioritising tasks, and setting academic goals.

Week 5: Building Social and Communication Skills

  • Topics Covered:

    • Developing good communication skills and confidence in social situations.

    • Understanding how to form friendships, deal with peer pressure, and resolve conflicts.

Week 6: Preparing for Secondary School Life

  • Topics Covered:

    • Understanding the layout of secondary school, managing different subjects and teachers, and getting involved in extracurricular activities.

    • Reviewing and celebrating individual progress throughout the course.


By the end of this course, participants will have strengthened their core academic skills, filled knowledge gaps from primary school, and gained the confidence and practical tools needed to succeed in their transition to secondary school
