Independent Living: Skills for a Self-Sufficient Life 

This course is a 6  week course,  delivered in the home to students who are unable to attend on site provision. 

This course can be accredited by the NCFE at Level 1 or Level 2 

Week 1: Introduction to Independent Living

  • Topics Covered:

    • Understanding what independent living means and its importance.

    • Identifying personal goals for independence and self-sufficiency.

Week 2: Life Skills Essentials

  • Topics Covered:

    • Basic cooking skills: meal planning, grocery shopping, and food safety.

    • Laundry basics: washing, drying, and caring for clothes.

Week 3: Financial Literacy for Independence

  • Topics Covered:

    • Basics of budgeting: tracking income and expenses.

    • Understanding banking: setting up a bank account, saving, and managing money.

Week 4: Personal Safety and Health

  • Topics Covered:

    • Importance of personal safety: home safety, internet safety, and dealing with emergencies.

    • Basic first aid and understanding health resources (doctors, mental health).

Week 5: Communication and Interpersonal Skills

  • Topics Covered:

    • Importance of effective communication and assertiveness in everyday interactions.

    • Building healthy relationships with family, friends, and peers.

Week 6: Planning for the Future

  • Topics Covered:

    • Setting personal goals for the future: education, career, and life choices.

    • Exploring available resources and support systems for young adults.

By the end of this course, participants will have gained essential life skills and practical knowledge needed for independent living, empowering them to transition smoothly into adulthood and take charge of their lives.
